Warung Ais

Warung Ais is a simple evening seafood stall on Jalan Sriwijaya, right next to the Max One Hotel, set up in front of the owner's house. You choose your fish, squid or crab from the iced display, and prices depend on type and size. It is one of the most affordable places in central Tanjung Pandan for grilled seafood.

The speciality is ikan bakar, fish grilled with a rich spice paste or with sweet soy, and ikan ilak, a Belitung favourite, is often available. A small red snapper, enough for one or two people, costs around Rp40,000. Fried squid, crab in Padang sauce and stir-fried kangkung are good accompaniments, and gangan is also on the menu. The choice of sauces is limited, so chilli lovers may want extra sambal.

The stall opens daily from 10:00 to 22:15, though it is at its liveliest after dark. Seating is basic plastic chairs and tables. It is cash only and ideal if you are staying on Jalan Sriwijaya and want an inexpensive local dinner within walking distance.
