Raja Seafood is one of Belitung's busiest seafood restaurants and a regular stop for tour groups, set on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman on the way between the airport and town. The dining hall is spacious and tidy, with a big car park that takes coaches.
The signature dish is kepiting asap, smoked crab, and the restaurant is known for big, fresh crabs and prawns. Other favourites include kepiting isi (stuffed crab), udang kipas in Padang sauce, steamed grouper with tauco, grilled ikan ayam-ayam and stir-fried genjer. Most dishes come in small, medium or large portions, which makes it easy for couples to try several plates. Some diners find the sauces on the sweet side.
It opens daily from about 08:00 to 22:00 (from 09:00 on Saturdays). At peak lunchtime with tour groups, drinks and dishes can arrive in waves, so consider ordering ahead by phone if you are on a tight schedule, and note the smoked crab can sell out. It is a convenient first or last meal if you are flying in or out.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
