Mie Belitung Awan is a modest bakmi shop on Jalan Sriwijaya, across the street from the BW Inn hotel. It serves the island's classic mie Belitung: yellow noodles in a sweet prawn gravy with prawns, tofu, potato, cucumber and crackers, presented on a leaf, plus bakso meatballs and simple noodle variations.
Reviewers describe the taste as close to the better-known shops but with a calmer atmosphere and a very welcoming owner, who often serves tables himself. The house sambal gets particular praise, so ask for it if you like heat. Prices are low and portions are generous for the money.
A practical advantage is the opening hours: Awan runs from 09:00 to 22:00 every day, so it works for a late dinner when many traditional noodle shops have already closed. It is a good choice if you are staying in central Tanjung Pandan and want a bowl of mie Belitung without the lunchtime crowds. Seating is simple and there is street parking outside.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
