Bakmi Achoi is a Chinese-Indonesian noodle shop on Jalan Madura that fills up with locals from 07:00. The draw is the bakmi or kwetiau topped with seasoned minced pork and bean sprouts, served with a bowl of clear broth, springy fish balls and dumplings. You can swap noodles for rice noodles or flat kwetiau, and the fried fish ball and pangsit sides are worth adding.
It is a non-halal kitchen. Expect to pay around Rp35,000 for a bowl. The shop is plain and functional, with plastic chairs and a roadside kitchen, but it is clean and the staff are friendly, often checking that you enjoyed your meal.
Timing matters: Achoi opens from 07:00 to 13:00 and the busiest window is 08:00 to 10:00, when you may wait 30 minutes or more for a table and food. Arrive early, or go towards late morning when it calms down. It is cash only. The shop is a few minutes' drive from the main hotels along Jalan Sriwijaya and the town centre, and there is space to park on the street outside.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
