Rindu Kampung is a seafood restaurant on Jalan Teluk Gembira at Padang Kandis, in the Membalong district of southern Belitung. It sits directly behind a quiet, clear-water beach, with tables in the main building and others set out under trees on the sand, so it makes an obvious lunch stop when exploring the south of the island.
The menu focuses on seafood but also offers fried chicken and fried noodles. Recommended dishes include gangan, the yellow spiced fish soup, crispy fried calamari that is tender inside, grilled fish and stir-fried kangkung that stays crunchy. Prices are moderate. The restaurant is clean and well organised, with showers, toilets and a prayer room, useful after a swim.
It opens daily from 09:00 to 22:00. There is no air-conditioning, only fans, so it can feel hot in the middle of the day. Service can be slow, and one diner waited a long time for drinks, so order early and consider phoning ahead for a group. It is well over an hour by car from Tanjung Pandan, so plan it as part of a day in the south.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
