Golden Harvest is a large Chinese restaurant on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman in Manggar, with a bright banquet-style dining hall that is also used for weddings. It advertises itself as 'no pork, no lard', making its Chinese cooking accessible to Muslim diners and mixed groups.
The menu is long, covering seafood, chicken, beef, tofu, noodles, fried rice and vegetables. Reviewers rate the food very highly, describing dishes that arrive piping hot, freshly cooked and full of flavour, and the bill as good value. Prices are moderate.
The catch is speed. The kitchen cooks each table's order in full before serving, so waits of up to an hour are common, especially at busy times. Regulars recommend phoning ahead to book and pre-order, which shortens the wait considerably. Golden Harvest opens daily from 11:00 to 21:00, has a free car park and a kids' menu. It is a good option for a relaxed dinner if you are staying overnight in Manggar.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
