Leebong is a privately run island resort off Belitung's west coast, spread across 37 hectares of white sand, forest and mangroves. It is reached by a short boat ride from the harbour at Tanjung Ru, which is itself not far from the airport, making it one of the easiest island stays to combine with a flight.
Villas include overwater and beachfront units such as Leticia Villa, which sleeps a family of four to six and has a sunset patio, a back lounge for sunrise and a glass panel in the floor for watching fish. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with fast Wi-Fi, and dinner is typically a selection of fresh seafood. Days are spent kayaking, snorkelling, walking the sandbars that appear at low tide and exploring the mangroves; the island also hosts wellness retreats.
Many visitors come only for the day, so weekends, especially Sundays, can be busy and noisy with groups; stay midweek for peace and quiet. A few guests mention heat and musty rooms, so ask for a well-ventilated villa. Book packages, including boat transfers and meals, directly with the resort.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
