Green Tropical Village is a low-rise resort on Jalan Ahmad Yani in the Pangkal Lalang area, close to central Tanjung Pandan but set well back from the main road. It is one of the few places in town with a resort feel: a large, shaded compound of ethnic-style wooden bungalows, gazebos and a well-kept tropical garden.
Accommodation ranges from 'village' rooms arranged in rows, each with its own patio, to standalone one- and two-bedroom bungalows and a royal suite with a pool directly outside the door. There are three swimming pools in all, including a large rectangular pool and a free-form one. Guests praise the friendly staff, comfortable beds and green surroundings, which feel noticeably cooler than the streets outside. Common criticisms are dim room lighting, occasional moss in the pools and slow restaurant service, so expect charm over polish.
It is a good fit for families and groups who want space and a pool without travelling to the north coast. The town's coffee shops and restaurants are a few minutes away, and Tanjung Kelayang is around 40 minutes by car. Book via the hotel's website or by phone.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
