Bukit Berahu is a small hill on the coast just south of Tanjung Binga, with a sheltered sandy cove at its foot. A flight of steps leads down from the hillside, where there is a cottage-style resort and restaurant, to a calm beach with shallow, clear water and a few shady trees.
It is a quieter alternative to Tanjung Tinggi and Tanjung Kelayang, popular with couples and families who want a swim without crowds. Rope swings and wooden props on the sand make it a favourite photo spot, and the beach faces west, so it is a good place to watch the sun go down over the sea. Snacks and drinks are usually available nearby.
Bukit Berahu is around 30 minutes' drive from Tanjung Pandan on the road to Tanjung Binga. The steps are fairly steep, so take care with small children and carry only what you need. A modest entry or parking fee may be collected at the top. Weekday afternoons are the most peaceful time to visit.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
