Manggar calls itself the town of 1001 warung kopi, and Warkop Millenium on Jalan Bioskop Surya is one of its biggest and busiest. It is a classic local coffee shop: open-fronted, crowded with tables and full of residents chatting over coffee from morning until late.
Order kopi O (black) or kopi susu with condensed milk, made with Manggar coffee, and pair it with the house toast, which is crispy outside and buttery within; the kornet (corned beef) toast is a favourite. There are also half-boiled eggs, Indomie with fish balls, pempek, fried cassava and fried bananas, plus es jeruk kunci. Prices range from about Rp6,000 to Rp30,000.
It opens daily from 08:00 to 22:00 (23:00 on Saturdays). Popular snacks can run out by late afternoon, so come earlier for the best choice. Free Wi-Fi and a large projector screen make it the place to watch live football with locals. It is close to Warkop Ayin and the other coffee shops on the same street, so you can easily hop between them.
School holidays and long weekends bring crowds from Jakarta: book beach resorts and boats ahead then.
